The truth behind Wolverine

Posted by Early Tokyo in

wolverine A few weeks ago, my friend invited me to join her to watch new movie at theatre. Frankly, I was happy when I know we’ll buy a couple tickets for X-Men Origin = Wolverine, the most ambiguous but powerful character among the mutant in X-Mansion which developed by Professor-X, he was my hero even when I was a child, his tremendous adamantium claws that can be lengthen and hidden whenever he want, was amazed me and hopefully that claws would be mine he… he… please don’t laugh at me, it was childish dream, don’t you ever have the same dream when you were a child… so laugh on yourself please!

In fact, Wolverine/Logan character is not so that powerful, I rate his power is in the second level among the mutants, but the special power from this character is he, possesses the regenerating power, when he shoot, burnt or even cut, he will regenerate all of his tissue completely, and this character is immortal, in fact he can die when his head chopped from his body, and only William Stryker and Sabre tooth/Victor Creed who knows his weakness.

You know, the character makes me wonder, why the creator of the character has chosen name WOLVERINE instead of WOLF, so many years passing by and till the day of X-Men Origin has come, I trying to figure out who and what the wolverine is… and I found it, but before I was mixed out mind and misunderstand about wolverine and wolf, I think it just the same creatures, until today when I have a spare times and open my browser to find out what it was, then I found the mythical little cute beast… why I say beast, yes it is, it’s a beast with small size, see the picture below

I think, why the Marvel founder has choose this animal for Logan name, Wolverine, because this animal is solitary mammal as Logan did, and also for its strength, especially it claws that can be break it prey bones. Wolverine (the animal) is a "cruiser", the ability to move for hundred miles from its origin was proved that this animal is roamer or wanderer animals.

This is the real Wolverine, the creature that we can only find in California, USA.

The wolverine (Gulo gulo, also occasionally called Glutton or Carcajou) is the largest land-dwelling species of the Mustelidae (weasel) family in the genus Gulo (Latin: "glutton"). It is a stocky and muscular carnivore, resembling a small bear more than other mustelids. The wolverine has a reputation for ferocity and strength out of proportion to its size, with the documented ability to kill prey many times it size.

The wolverine is distributed primarily in remote reaches of the Northern boreal forests and subarctic and alpine tundra of the Northern hemisphere, with the greatest numbers in Alaska, Canada, the Nordic countries of Europe and throughout western Russia and Siberia. Their populations have experienced a steady decline since the 19th century in the face of trapping, range reduction and habitat fragmentation, such that they are essentially absent in the southern end of their European range and are quite rare in the continental United States

Anatomically, the wolverine is a stocky and muscular animal. With short legs, broad and rounded head, and small eyes with short rounded ears, it resembles a bear more than other mustelids. Their legs are short, while its large five-toed paws and plantigrade posture facilitate movement through deep snow.[5]

The adult wolverine is about the size of a medium dog, with a length usually ranging from 65 – 87 cm (25 – 34 inches), a tail of 17 – 26 cm (7 – 10 inches), and a weight of 10-25 kg (22 – 55 lb), though exceptionally large males can weigh over 31 kg (70 lb).[6] The males are as much as 30 percent larger than the females. It is the largest of terrestrial mustelids; only the marine dwelling sea otter and giant otter are larger.

Wolverines have thick, dark, oily fur which is highly hydrophobic, making it resistant to frost. This has led to its traditional popularity among hunters and trappers as a lining in jackets and parkas in Arctic conditions. A light silvery facial mask is distinct in some individuals, and a pale buff stripe runs laterally from the shoulders along the side and crossing the rump just above a 25-35 cm bushy tail. Some individuals display prominent white hair patches on the throat or chest.[5]

Like many other mustelids, it has potent anal scent glands used for marking territory and sexual signalling. The pungent odor has given rise to the nicknames "skunk bear" and "nasty cat." Wolverines, like other mustelids, possess a special upper molar in the back of the mouth that is rotated 90 degrees, towards the inside of the mouth. This special characteristic allows wolverines to tear off meat from prey or carrion that has been frozen solid

This animal is solitary creatures, and some of myth tells that it was descendant of evil himself, and one rumors said a farmer ever seen the big bear was killed by this small evil, do you believe it?

Still, Wolverine is my hero, you want to laugh on me… be my guest…
